Charcoal portrait for Lou.

Roughroughrough sketch. Inspired by one of the new stills from season 2.
I haven’t added anything to it since working on it earlier today.
But I am planning to add a lot of text to it. Still trying to decide how far to render the figures. It’s not going to be exact because I need it to be high contrast for my transparencies and photo-emulsion.
This project takes a fuck-ton of planning.
But it’ll be worth it.
Okay. Self portrait idea drawn out.
Now, to figure out how the fuck I’m going to do these layers.
Printing is so much different than what I’m used to. So much process and planning—which is totally fine. Because when I do it right, the prints come out right.
It’s not like drawing and painting where I can just whip it out and go. But this project, it kind of is like that. I get to use the brush method and paint it out.
But instead, I have to think of it differently..this texture with this color and for this layer I want smooth lines. So much to think about, but I know… it’s going to come out awesome.

And the last one of the year.
It’s different because it’s not charcoal.
I was having fun with blue lead haha. I also put away most of my charcoal this semester and was mainly focused with oils. So I didn’t have time to dig out my stuff and get dirty again.
I promised all of the band that they’d all have their own portrait for their next show in town.
I should get started on that. I’ll do it all in charcoal again.

I finished this the night before the show.
The same night that I was at the Monsterball.
So I didn’t get much sleep.
The smiles on their faces when I gave it to them was way worth it though.

For the first show of 2011… all the way back in February.
It was a pretty bad rainstorm…luckily I gave it to Kiyomi right when we got there because they were loading all the equipment in.
That’s when the tradition started. I like giving bands that I adore a piece of my talent.

I never took a proper picture of it. This was with my iphone.. so it kinda fucked the quality…
Anywho. It’s all charcoal.
Old drawing from high school days?
Definitely Shane-inspired. In fact, I think this is my recreation of Shane. haha.
